Grecian Isles, Day 04, 2-11-2018

No tour of Greece would be complete without a day cruise on the Aegean Sea, visiting the Greek Islands.  We were up at the crack of dawn, awaiting the Viator bus to pick us up at our hotel and transport us to the docks to begin our seaborn adventure.  Our plans were to take a day cruise to visit the islands of Hydra, Portos, and Aegina.  0650 we were on our way.  A beautiful day,  sunshine, gorgeous weather.

We departed the port and headed for Aegina....about a one hour cruise.  Nice ship, great seats, pretty scenery, bumpy ride.  A number of passengers on the ship were not cut out to be sailors and would have probably forfeited their tour fee if they could just get back on dry land.  Emily said once we got to Aegina, she would not get back on the boat.  She had  enough.  Fortunately for all of us, none of us got sick, and once we left Aegina the seas were smooth.  While in Aegina we had a couple of hours to tour this lovely village.  We had lunch in a great little sidewalk cafe.  Aegina is the Pistachio Capital of the Universe, so we bought some pistachios.

After we returned to the ship, we continued our island tour. (Emily stayed with us)   We bypassed Portos and continued on to Hydra...another very pretty island village.  The wind was blowing very hard here.  We chose not to ride the donkeys.  We just took pictures and found a quiet restaurant to get out of the wind and have a cup of coffee.  When we left Hydra we went directly back to Athens, into calm seas and a beautiful sunset.  If your travels take you to this region, by all means, make an effort to visit the islands.

Our whirlwind trip is coming to an end.  Tomorrow we head for the airport and home.  For our last night in Greece, we went to a local grill for a Greek Gyro.  We have seen some great scenery, had some great meals,  learned a lot about the history of Greece, and just had a good time.

When we get over the jet lag,  we will start planning the next trip. (July...Tuscany, the French Riveria, and the south of France)...in search of the lavender fields.  Join us....
